What is an Arborist Consulting?

Arboriculture is the science of trees and the surrounding environment. Consulting Arborists are experts in arboriculture and provide a variety of specialist services including expert witness testimony, develop protective strategies for construction improvements around trees, diagnose tree disorders, provide reforestation recommendations, as well as general advice for home owners, industry professionals, and councils on the best management practices for their arboreal resources.

Many arborists who offer consulting work may also have a regular tree service business where they perform physical tasks like pruning and removals. However, some are exclusively a consulting arborist and focus their efforts on providing analysis and expert advice rather than performing tree services. These professional arborists typically have additional training or certification that sets them apart from standard certified arborists. For example, many consulting arborists are members of organizations such as the American Society of Consulting Arborists (ASCA), and earn a designation known as a Registered Consulting Arborist (RCA).

A qualified Consulting Arborist will be able to provide multiple solutions for your problem trees instead of just telling you to remove them. The industry is still evolving which means that the qualifications of arboricultural consultants will vary, but it is generally accepted that a AQF Level 5 qualification in Arboriculture is the minimum requirement for providing consultant-level services. This is because this is the minimum level of education that employers, industry bodies and councils recognise as sufficient to perform consultant-level services.

In addition to being fully qualified and insured to provide advice for tree management, tree care, and construction work around trees, a consulting arborist will have extensive experience in their area of expertise. They will be able to provide the knowledge and guidance you need to get the results you want from your trees.

A Consultant Arborist will be able to assist you in obtaining the required permits for work such as tree removals, transplants and reforestation projects. They will be able to review the job plans and provide detailed tree impact surveys which include, but are not limited to, a listing of all of the existing trees on your property, tree species, caliber and condition and a summary of the proposed works. The consultant will then create daily reports reflecting the work being done on your trees and make any recomendations necessary to ensure your project meets your tree preservation goals.

At A Plus Tree, our team of consultants are ISA Certified Arborists with a RCA designation. This is the highest level of accreditation offered by ASCA and only 2% of all ISA Certified Arborists have earned this distinction. This demonstrates that we are dedicated to the objective assessment of trees, the enhancement of our natural environment and preserving the value and integrity of our community’s urban forest. Contact us for a no-obligation fee proposal that will explain the costs and benefits of our services. This is the best way to determine if we can help with your tree needs. We look forward to hearing from you!
