The Importance of Tree Care

Trees provide many benefits to a property and are often seen as an investment. They enhance the visual appeal, improve air quality, and can also increase the value of a home. However, if a tree becomes unhealthy, it can have adverse effects on the surrounding landscaping and nearby structures. This is why it is important to regularly inspect trees on your property and to contact a tree service when you notice any problems. The good news is that healthy trees don’t usually die suddenly, but rather decline slowly over a period of years. This slow death can be prevented by regularly inspecting the trees on your property, especially after major storms.

A healthy tree has bright green, uniform leaves that are free of damage or disease. In addition, the leaves should be growing larger each year. If a tree is not growing properly, it could indicate that there are not enough nutrients or water in the soil, a lack of sunlight, or a problem with root structure. Symptoms of a declining tree include bare spots, yellowing or brown leaves, and misshapen branches.

It is also a good idea to keep an eye out for any dead or dying branches, as these can fall and damage the home. It is also a good idea to prune a tree at least once a year, and to remove any dead or broken limbs right away. This will help the remaining limbs to grow strong and healthy.

When inspecting your trees, you should also look at the bark. This layer should be solid and intact, and it should not be peeling, unless this is normal for the species of tree (like birch or eucalyptus). If the bark is loose or crumbling, it is a sign that the tree is stressed. Loose bark may also indicate pest infestation or fungus.

Lastly, you should check for any cracks, cavities, bulges, or wounds on the trunk of the tree. These signs may indicate structural damage and can allow pathogens to enter the tree and cause further issues.

Fungus is a common issue that can grow very quickly. If you notice fungus on your tree, it is important to consider treatment options as soon as possible. Keeping a close eye on your trees will ensure that they remain healthy and vibrant and can continue to provide their aesthetic and environmental benefits for years to come.
